What’s Bean Brewing? – The World of Coffee, Explained

Coffee isn’t just a drink. It’s a passport. One sip takes you to the cobbled cafés of Rome, another to a bustling Addis Ababa coffee ceremony, and the next to the streets of Hanoi with its sweet iced coffee charm.

Wherever you find it, coffee is culture in a cup – a ritual, a comfort, and sometimes, the only way mornings make sense.

Let’s dive into the Two Beans That Rule the  World

Despite the endless coffee options on menus today, the global coffee market is ruled almost entirely by two beans: Arabica and Robusta. Together, they make up over 95% of the world’s coffee.

Arabica (≈70%) – Smooth, aromatic, slightly sweet, with hints of fruit or chocolate. It’s the bean of choice for specialty cafés and those who like their coffee gentle but layered.

Robusta (≈25%) – Stronger, earthier, higher in caffeine, with a bold kick that holds its own in espressos. It’s the underdog bean that fuels much of the instant coffee market.

Sure, there are others like Liberica and Excelsa – rare, funky, and deeply regional – but for most of us, the coffee in our cups comes from one of these two giants.

Brewing: Where Science Meets Ritual

How you brew your coffee transforms the same beans into completely different experiences. A French press gives a rich, full-bodied cup. A pour-over teases out delicate flavors, almost like tasting notes in wine.

Meanwhile, espresso machines compress intensity into a single, velvet shot. Around the world, brewing isn’t just method – it’s ritual. From Turkish coffee simmered in cezves to the communal sharing of Ethiopian brews, coffee is as much about connection as it is about caffeine.

A Taste of Nepal – A Hidden Coffee Gem

Beyond the big coffee nations, new regions are quietly making their mark. Nepal, better known for its tea traditions, is also producing unique high-altitude Arabica beans. With floral notes and a smooth finish, Nepali coffee feels both familiar and rare – almost like a hidden treasure from the Himalayas.

It hasn’t yet gone mainstream, but that’s what makes it exciting. This could be the blend that coffee enthusiasts start buzzing about in the coming years – a product with the potential to become a global sensation. For us, discoveries like this align perfectly with our ethos: sourcing with curiosity and introducing flavors that carry both culture and story.

So… What’s Really Been Brewing?

Coffee isn’t just about beans or brewing styles – it’s about moments, connections, and the small rituals that anchor us in the chaos of everyday life. Arabica and Robusta may dominate, but the future of coffee might just lie in emerging gems like Nepal, waiting for the world to notice.

At Nebula, we’re excited to be part of that journey – curating not just what you drink, but the story behind each sip. Who knows? The next global coffee sensation could be brewing in the Himalayas.
